Emergency Medical Services in Powhatan County is provided by Powhatan Volunteer Rescue Squad, supplemented by contract EMS providers and fire department personnel paid by the County. These organizations provide 24 hour basis and advanced life support seven days a week, 365 days a year.
Powhatan Volunteer Rescue Squad purchases supplies and equipment, in addition to providing traininig and certifications for members. PVRS relies on donations to pay for these expenses which enhance the quality of services provided to Powhatan's citizens and visitors.
Like many localities across the state, Powhatan County charges for EMS basic and advance life support transports. Medicare, Medicaid and the majority of private insurance providers cover the costs of ambulance transports. As the volume of calls has increased over the years, the County has needed to supplement our volunteers with contract providers available to respond to calls within the County weekdays from 5:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. To minimize the impact on the County and avoid the need to raise tax revenue, Powhatan County implemented charges for EMS transports on July 1, 2012.
The County contracts with a third party to administer EMS transport billings. If you have questions regarding a bill or are experiencing difficulty paying an uninsured bill, please contact the third party adminstrator below:
